India Tour

In December of 2012, members of the Deborah Abel Dance Company, at the invitation of the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR), travelled to India to bring their dance, their music, and their passion to Jaipur, New Delhi, and Chennai. They performed at the Madras Festival of Dance and Music thanks to a kind invitation from the Kalakshetra Foundation.

The Company also visited and performed for the members of the Self Employed Women’s Association (SEWA), a trade union for poor, self-employed women with over 1 million members in different regions all over India. Hillary Clinton has identified the founder of SEWA, Ela Bhatt, as one of her ‘heroines’.
